By and large, as technology keeps its influence on us offering us a pack of benefits, we as human beings of the new century can’t even live without the existence of technology.

3D printing technology, as a newly emerging innovation in recent years, gained momentum and is now undergoing a surprise shakeup in this huge marketplace. As 3D printing becomes more accessible, it is becoming more common within the home, workplace, and public libraries, and moreover, it helps boost the charity career. In this article, I would love to get you informed about a non-profit organization- e-NABLE.

Introduction of e-Nable

E-NABLE is an online global community of “Digital Humanitarian” volunteers from all over the world who are using their 3D printers to make free and low-cost prosthetic upper limb devices for children and adults in need. People who are suffering the loss of fingers, hands, or even arms because of innate diseases, accidents, or wars will gain their hopes from such an assistive technology out of 3D printing.

Touching stories from the community

“Give the World a Helping Hand”

  • The positive shifts and mutual feedback from the child have made everything come with love. This is what e-NABLE does, spreading love worldwide with every possibility.

Cam, a 5-year-old boy who gets the brightest smile when he laughs, is confident and outgoing, yet he still hides his hand subconsciously sometimes. His brightest-ever day came when he got his first 3D-printed arm in his life. Such an artificial arm swept all his concerns and uneasiness while he felt even more confident and innovative in the inspiration of this printed hand in a copy shape from the one of Iron Man. From then on, he became a volunteer of e-NABLE either, on behalf of the child spokesman. He is even more confident when he faces hundreds of people in front, adults or children.

“He has learned how to turn the printer and computer on, and he even knows how to edit a file with the assistance of other people,” said Cam’s mom, a volunteer at e-NABLE.

  • Everyone is not a sage of perfection. We gain more love and hope from those imperfections.

One day in December 2012, little boy Liam finally got an artificial hand of his own with the assistance of e-NABLE. After several tries and practices on handling his new printed plastic hand, he succeeded in grabbing a ball up with that. His mom, who stood right aside, burst out crying with happiness.

As for the other people who possess a healthy physical situation, grabbing a ball is just a casual and simple movement. But for this little boy Liam and his mom, that is hope. They hope for the upcoming future and happiness in every piece of their life.

The volunteer map

Richard Van As, a carpenter from South Africa met Ivan Owen, an engineer from Washington DC. in November 2012. They started running their 3D printing public welfare aiming to build more “Hands” for everyone who was in need of it. What they had done was also posted on YouTube. As the video went viral, more and more people started paying close attention to such a group.

“If you’re willing to receive inquiries from people who need a robohand, put yourself on the map! I’ve put a user-editable map on Robohand’s Facebook and Thingiverse pages.”

Dr. Jon Schull is a scientist from Rochester Institute of Technology, he had built up a map that connects the volunteers all around the world. It was the map that triggered a grassroots movement. And more than 70 volunteers marked their position on the map within six weeks. That’s how the e-NABLE platform formed.

All volunteers nursed the same ambition, they gathered together on the platform and shared their ideas while striving to design various rebounds for different kids.

What’s the most surprising thing is that e-NABLE not only offers a “hand”, but lets those kids in need liberate their imaginations. They allow kids to choose the color and texture on their own. Red or blue? Smooth or carved? They get what they want.

“Can I get my new hand glow in the dark?”

“I want it to be a Spider-man type!”

Their lives aren’t of darkness, they shine thanks to e-NABLE. They glitter thanks to the great 3D printing technology.

This week in Geeetech 3D Maker Salon LIVE TALK #33, we will invite Maria Esquela who is an active e-NABLE volunteer and leader from enablingthefuture.org, a 501c3 non-profit organization to share some of the projects she has done so far.

Let’s stay tuned!

The Great Ideas of the 3D Printing Products丨Start Boosting your 3D Printing Business https://www.geeetech.com/blog/news/the-great-ideas-of-the-3d-printing-products%e4%b8%a8start-boosting-your-3d-printing-business/ Mon, 28 Dec 2020 09:04:07 +0000 http://www.geeetech.com/blog/?p=10731 As the surging bloom of the 3D industries flows into the global market, there come various opportunities for the side industries by the 3D printing products. The 3D printing technology, as it has gained momentum in recent years, bodes well for entrepreneurship. To that end, let’s talk about some industries that have derived from 3D printing, which, more or less, might deliver some enlightening ideas. Let’s just dive in.

▲ The Prototype Board Industry

In the earlier years of the surge of 3D technology, the prototype board industry was blessed and was the one who took the first bite of the fruition. We know that every single product we use in our daily application should be produced by design, prototype making, and then precise adjustment.

Before the popularization of 3D technology, the prototype was initially made by hand. Then came the CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, or CNC engraving machines, which replaced manual production. Nowadays, upon 3D technology’s popularity, 3D printers gradually steal the thunder of CNC and take the lead.

#CNC Machine

With the promising capability of fast modeling and more complex building, 3D printers surely prevail when they are pitted against CNC machines.

For the prototype board industry, the main client source should be industrial design companies, modeling companies, and large light industrial factories, such as toy factories and electrical factories.

▲ 3D Printed Portrait Figure Service

What advancing technology brings to us is not only the convenience of our life but in a further probe, also the most inner touch of our spirit and soul. Some industries like 3D printed portrait figure services have gained popularity, applying for personalization, studios, travel classics, and even funerals.

Some studios are now offering wedding 3D portrait services for married couples, recording the sweet scenes of the couple in 3D form.

Meantime, the funeral service industry, with a human-centered approach, offers 3D printing services for the deceased. They print the mutilated parts of the deceased to leave them with a final dignity, and meanwhile, they offer the portrait figure printing service. In an even more innovative move, there is a funeral service company that has created a 3D-printed urn to simulate the deceased’s appearance in an utmost degree of imitation. With this technology, 3D printing can capture the slightest detail of a person’s facial characteristics as well as remove their “flawed” parts somehow caused by accident, in pursuing the most perfect side of their beloved ones.

▲ 3D Modeling Business

If you can use your printers to run a business. The modeling career could be your best choice specializing in the 3D printing business. You can cooperate with various modeling-making companies and produce the model for them. Model printing bears a wide range of selections, including architectural sand table models, aviation models, car models, toy models, graduation design models, sculpture models, etc.
A modeling company, with its 3D printing technology, possesses a rather promising prospect. With a specialized printer, it can turn every impossibility into a possibility nowadays.

▲ The Ever-lasting Market: Footwear Industry

The footwear industry, an eternal industry permeating the whole history of mankind, bears the broadest market ever. Meanwhile, the footwear industry will always come up with a model of its production process. According to an authorized footwear 3D printing institution, with the promising emergence of its 3D printing career, it will keep its surging status shortly.

Watch These Bionic 3D -Printed Coral Lamps https://www.geeetech.com/blog/news/watch-these-bionic-3d-printed-coral-lamps/ Mon, 07 Dec 2020 18:14:51 +0000 http://www.geeetech.com/blog/?p=10679 It’s one thing to create attractive and functional light fixture, and quite another thing to make a stunning light using algorithms that copy coral growth patterns.

The 3d-printed Sargasso lamp

Industrial designer John Mauriello, based in San Francisco, broke the conventional thinking and put the effort into his Coral Lamp Lighting Collection with something else entirely.

These lamp prototypes took their inspiration from different types of corals coming with varying aesthetics. Mauriello selected only three prototypes from hundreds of them to produce: the Timor, the Sargasso, and the Celebes.

Three members of Mauriello’s Coral Lighting Collection.
The 3d-printed Timor lamp

Before 3D printing these Coral Lamps , Mauriello firstly developed the computational algorithms that mimic coral growth patterns, which show the “growth” of the lamps as they come into being. And, more remarkable, all three lamps were 3D printed in the USA, using processes which recycle waste material in an attempt to reduce waste and curb carbon emissions.

The 3D animation is shown for reference only and not really a frame-by-frame recreation in the process of 3D printing the lamps. Instead, Mauriello wanted to make a video to simulate what corals look like underwater.

The Coral Lamp Lighting Collection is Mauriello’s way of paying tribute to the ocean’s beauty. As an senior surfer,Mauriello’ve experienced the beauty and power of the great ocean,in which coral is one of many magical living structures with all sorts of shape, scale and color.Mauriello’s lighting celebrates this thriving life created by an entire coral ecosystem.

Will 3D Printers Change The Future of Garage Kits? https://www.geeetech.com/blog/3d-printing-application/will-3d-printers-change-the-future-of-garage-kits/ Tue, 20 Oct 2020 17:38:28 +0000 http://www.geeetech.com/blog/?p=10498 In the past few years, 3D printers have become easier to use and can do some really cool things. Like this guy.

3D Printing works of Thanos(Marvel Cinematic Universe) printed by Getech Technology Co.

Anyway, today I started thinking about what this means for the future of garage kits. As garage kits are sold at conventions and produced in limited quantities by individuals or groups, they are hard to come by.

Generally, the official sales price of garage kits is determined according to their production process. The following processes are the factors that lead to its high price:

1. The first thing to do before making a garage kit is to ask the prototype designer to design the prototype.

2, The next step is to make the mold.

3, After completing the steps above, you should color and paint it.

4, It may be colored unevenly or too much on a certain part and need to be fixed.

5. Many garage kits have limited production. A garage kit is generally pre-displayed in the form of GK grey mold at the WTF exhibition, and buyers will confirm the reservation according to this preview.

A Garage kit of Son Goku (Dragon Ball)

So as 3D printers become more mainstream, you may have the opportunity to use a program to create 3D images and make your garage kits. You can choose the best 3D printer filament to print model parts and assemble them all together with glue. This is likely to happen with 3D printers becoming cheap. You can check out our website to know how much is a 3D printer.

3D printer can print your favorite garage kits with high precision, without the expensive cost of hiring a prototype designer and making molds. Complex processes such as making eyes and nails can still be simplified when using the 3D printer. After polishing and coloring, a delicate toy is finished.

The 3D printing garage kit has the advantages of low cost, high efficiency, and guaranteed quality. For those who can’t afford expensive garage kits, getting a 3D printer is a great option, with which you can print your favorite animation role and participate in the whole process, which is also a very interesting experience.

TCT Asia 2018: Flying 3D Printer Steals The Spotlight https://www.geeetech.com/blog/news/tct-asia-2018-flying-3d-printer-steals-the-spotlight/ Sun, 04 Mar 2018 00:29:39 +0000 http://www.geeetech.com/blog/?p=9056 flying 3D printer demoIn the past few years, we have seen a lot of crazy concepts at trade shows, but today at TCT Asia 2018 were something happened that actually did blow your socks off. The Hangzhou based DediBot stole the spotlight at TCT Asia 2018 with its flying 3D printer. The concept called the Fly Elephant, a flying 3D printer, yes that’s right a FLYING 3D printer.

The Fly Elephant is currently only a concept but here at TCT Asia showing exactly how that concept could work. The Fly Elephant is a powerful drone with a Delta-like printer on the bottom, the software for it will be able to precisely plot where the drone lays down the material.

Open-ended Additive Manufacturing

A Fly Elephant system is basically a delta 3D printer mounted to a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle). It operates, either as a single unit or a swarm, using a technology termed Open-ended Additive Manufacturing (OAM).

Under the six rotors, a cage of the Open-ended Additive Manufacturing (OAM) drone hangs a 3D printing nozzle that’s fed plastic, concrete mix or other material from a tube connected to the top of the OAM Fly Elephant. The drone’s printing path will be precisely plotted by software, for a promised printing accuracy of 0.1 mm. The company has been showcasing concrete prints made with the Fly Elephant at their TCT Asia 2018 booth.

How does it feed?

At TCT Asia, a demo Fly Elephant model has been shown depositing layers of cement to make a low, free-standing foundation for a building.
The only constraints to the system are the material feed. In concept drawings, a helium balloon serves as a feedstock store which is tethered to the UAV by a pipe.
The floating feed would still enable free-roaming drones, however, there may yet some challenges to the loading of the balloon and the flying power of the drone. Interestingly, the balloon may also act as a stabilizer for Fly Elephants.

In a technology-driven shipbuilding project launched by Sembcorp Marine, UAVs are used as roving inspectors and assistance in health and safety.
The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is also using drones to monitor the construction of building blocks.

While this innovative concept is certainly drawing attention at the Shanghai-based trade show. The Chinese manufacturer is currently looking for collaborators to help take the Fly Elephant from an idea to a groundbreaking tool for construction and more.

Build Your Industry with 3D Prototyping Process!! https://www.geeetech.com/blog/3d-printing-application/build-your-industry-with-3d-prototyping-process/ Thu, 01 Mar 2018 00:53:59 +0000 http://www.geeetech.com/blog/?p=9017 3D printing is not a new technology. It’s being used in industries for 30 years. In today’s world, however, industrial level 3D printing, known as additive manufacturing, and advanced CNC machining allow manufacturers to build up prototypes significantly faster and perform well on demand.

AM can be implemented throughout all of the steps of the manufacturing process, from creating prototypes and producing supporting tools like jigs and fixtures to end part production.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWFF8qr0pyo

Visual Prototypes

When it was invented, 3D printing was mentioned as rapid prototyping, a method for automating and reducing the labor required to create a prototype model for design validation. Since then, it has found use in a number of other applications, but the technology is still widely implemented to create visual models and functional prototypes.

For the production of visual models, 3D printing has evolved more. Though it’s possible to create highly detailed prints with technologies like stereolithography (SLA), full-color 3D printing with binder jetting, paper 3D printing, and material jetting can achieve a vibrancy impossible with other technologies.

ColorJet Printing

ColorJet Printing (CJP), a binder jetting technology from 3D Systems, involves the deposition of a liquid binding agent and CMYK inks onto a bed of gypsum powder, resulting in the creation of full-color, sandstone-like models. Though the process is different, PolyJet, from Stratasys, takes this a step further with the ability to alter physical properties such as flexibility and transparency. PolyJet is a material jetting technology that deposits photocurable resins, which are then hardened with a UV lamp.

Mcor’s paper 3D printer

Mcor’s paper 3D printing technology unable to achieve the same geometric complexity but the parts are made from paper, making it eco- friendly. This process sees CMYK deposited onto white paper, which is then pasted to the previous layer and cut with a tungsten carbide blade.

Functional Prototypes

For testing the function of a design, color quality may not be so important. For example, testing a living hinge might require 3D printing with a durable thermoplastic, such as nylon, or with a rubber-like photopolymer, printed with material jetting or vat photopolymerization technologies, such as SLA or digital light processing (DLP). For wind tunnel testing, a number of technologies work, but the part will need to be post-processed in such a way that aerodynamic properties of a part aren’t inhibited by the striation made through the 3D printing process. For this reason, a high-resolution technology may be preferred.

Alta Motors All-Electric Motorbikes

Alta Motors is an electric motorcycle manufacturer that has begun working to use 3D printing to prototype parts for its bikes. In designing the firm’s Redshift motorcycle, Alta Motors turned to 3D printing service bureau The Technology House (TTH) to iterate functional prototypes quickly for parts that were to be mass manufactured. TTH relied on continuous liquid interface production (CLIP), an ultrafast 3D printing process from Carbon, to 3D print a number of parts.

Tooling

As a design moves from the concept phase to the production phase, a manufacturing operation may implement 3D printing for the fabrication of custom tools that aid in the production process. This can include anything from guides for precise drilling, dies for forming or cutting the raw material into a specific shape and measurement tools, like gauges, to jigs and fixtures that hold a part in place while other operations are performed.

3D printing may be used directly or indirectly in the creation of tooling. In the case of indirectly fabricating a tool with AM, a tool may be made by coating a 3D-printed component in rubber, which is then used to cast the tool itself.

When tools are custom made for a new manufacturing job, a business may need a third-party service provider, which may rely on traditional manufacturing technologies, such as CNC machining, to create the tooling. This process can be costly and time-consuming, with the business waiting weeks to months for the tools to be shipped in order to even begin manufacturing.

Patterns, Core, and Molds

3D printing is also used to produce objects that will ultimately be cast in metal. On a small scale, this can mean lost-wax casting models for jewelry and dental crowns. On a large scale, this can mean creating sand cores for casting complete engine parts.

In the process of lost-wax casting, a positive is 3D printed in a castable material. It is then submerged in a specialty investment material and burned out in a kiln. The result is a mold that is filled with molten metal to create a metal part. SLA, DLP, and material jetting technology, like the wax 3D printing process created by Solidscape, are ideal for this process, as they are capable of producing finely detailed prints with a high burnout.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15AmryIYu4k

For larger parts, binder jetting processes, like those from Voxeljet and ExOne, may be implemented to 3D print sand cores and molds. Binder jetting involves the deposition of a binder material onto a bed of powder, including sand, layer by layer until the print is complete. In sand casting, this object may then be placed into a molding box, which is filled with molten metal and, once cooled, broken apart to reveal the final metal object.

Due to the speed, quality and cost of AM, the technology is best suited for the production of specialty parts in smaller batches, rather than mass-manufactured goods. For this reason, end products that are made with 3D printing have usually been made that way for the good cause.

These 3D Printed Optical Illusions will Drive you Insane… https://www.geeetech.com/blog/3d-printing-application/3d-printing-design/these-3d-printed-optical-illusions-will-drive-you-insane/ Fri, 12 Jan 2018 22:30:11 +0000 http://www.geeetech.com/blog/?p=8126 To Live In A Dream And Print Your Illusion – That’s 3D Printing

Try staring at a picture drawn by M.C. Escher making you question and grow dizzy and trick the eye of the observer. Escher plays too well with illusion which is totally a world of imaginary world of complexities and perspective that tells us not everything is as it seems to be.Or simply, things appear different depending on which perspective you look with.

Creativity is making a reality out of an illusion. The concepts of the future are just turning out to be more real and acceptable, this is where 3D printing comes into play. The possibility that 3D printing can open up roads that beforehand have not been accessible by means of other fine arts, is something that makes this innovation so unimaginably engaging for craftsmen and visionaries all through the world.Think apart from your mundane creations and try to make something that can change the perspective of simple 3D printing out stuff.

These optical illusions will shock you and you would really want to know how to make them:

Optically Illusioned cylinders

The Ambiguous Cylinder Illusion from Japan’s Kokichi Sugihara confused and delighted viewers all over the world. The six plastic circular cylinder that are stuck together and when they are placed in front of a mirror they inexplicably look like squares placed together. When these cylinders are rotated they finally turn into circular again.Sugihara then outdid himself by adding several different types of groupings even more complicated and unbelievable than the original. It left almost everyone who saw it scratching their heads, and the internet was pretty desperate for answers. Devin Montes than quickly uploaded a video explaining this trick to his Make Anything channel on Youtube. The trick is quite simple as it has to deal with an unconventional shape called ‘squircle’.In reality, the object is a combination of a circle and a square that has an asymmetrical shape that distorts how it looks based on the angle that the squircle is being viewed.

“They look like vertical cylinders, but their sections appear to be different; in one view they appear to be rectangles, while in the other view they appear to be circles. We cannot correct our interpretations although we logically know that they come from the same objects. Even if the object is rotated in front of a viewer, it is difficult to understand the true shape of the object,” explained the website for the Best Illusion of the Year Contest. You can see more maker projects over on his YouTube channel Make Anything here, and you can get the 3D printable model here. You can read more about the original illusion here and you can buy these illusions here.

3D Printed Cube

Sage Hansen a 29-year-old is a Texas-based 3D animator who has recently created an anamorphic illusion which tricks the viewers amazingly. It is not actually a cube but a flat object complete with a series of disjointed lines and angles. This idea came to Sage when he was sleeping, when he got up and searched for this design online he found none. So he knew this is the ultimate design that can make him known.

3D Printed Yeezy shoe

As cool as the shoe appears, but no one can place their foot in this distorted sculpture. The Yeezy Boost 350 shoe is a collaboration of  Kanye West and Adidas. This sculpture is divided into 3 different tiers and 3D printed on a Polyjet resin which is white in color. The shoe creates an optical illusion of virtual manipulation. Griffi had started by scanning the original shoe. He then distorted the model digitally, twisting and deforming the middle section of the shoe until he was able to attain the proper balance of weight distribution between all three separate parts. Finding the correct balance between the parts was a bit tricky, as he had to make some educated guesses and rigid body simulations. He finally 3D printed the final shoe sculpture, using a white resin material.

3D Printed Zoetrope

zoetrope-2GIF

Zeotrope was popularized in the 19th century that produces an illusion of a sequence of pictures utilizing a spinning cylinder to carry on the sequenced motion. The revival of thoughts in the 3D printing technology has given a new way of developing a Zoetrope and modernizing it. Akinori Goto a Japan-based media artist is using 3D printing technology to create dance performances with the Zoetrope format. Utilizing the format of the zoetrope design, Goto has modernized it by placing light source instead of cylindrical format to conjure up the animated image within the 3D printed structure.

This 3D printed zoetrope has a number of dancing ballerinas within it whose number will change according to the amount of light that passes through it. Beginning with just a single dancing ballerina, Goto’s 3D printed zoetrope suddenly becomes full to the brim of twirling dancers made of light, each of which slides seamlessly throughout the structure. He had also produced a similar zoetrope called Toki which resembles time in Japan.

3D Printed Mask Toy

After watching how the black an blue dress became an internet sensation overnight Hagemann came up with a new idea for 3D Printing. He then came up with the inverted face idea or the hollow face idea which could be 3D Printed.Hagemann set out to create a face mask that can be viewed from both sides and it appears that the facial elements are protruding outwards from both the sides. One side of the print is inverted, both the sides appear to be sticking out. When he printed the design for the first time, it appeared that shadow casting is really difficult. The steep hole, which acts as the inverted nose on the face, was casting a large shadow which in turn made the entire illusion fail.

The best part is the majority of people will see a ‘positive’ face when viewing Hagemann’s 3D printed creation, although not everyone will. In particular, Schizophrenia sufferers will not be fooled by this illusion.  Others also have the ability to depict the fact that they are viewing an inverted object, but very few do. This is because of the way our brains are built.

3D printed Pinwheel

This optically illusional pinwheel was developed by Dalpek. He had this fascination for illusions which led to the discovery of this pinwheel. While making the Pinwheel he got into all sorts of problems with the dynamics of the pinwheel at first he tried with 5 blades which made its spinning difficult as there was too much of plastic. He made the blades thinner but this made it too light, causing it to barely spin when the air was applied. He finally decided on a good thickness for the blades (2mm). Then he found the perfect design for the pinwheel. This included creating individual blades with opposing twist angles for each section of the pinwheel, thus he made the optically illusioned 3d printed pinwheel possible and it’s pretty awesome.
