This product is a carrier board or breakout board for Allegro's A4988 DMOS Microstepping Driver with Translator and Overcurrent Protection by Pololu; we therefore recommend careful reading of the A4988 datasheet before using this product. This stepper motor driver lets you control one bipolar stepper motor at up to 2 A output current per coil.

    Hi i got this stepper motor driver, the Rs on top has R200 laber, but when i test it with a multimeter set to 200 ohm it says 01.0, My extruder motor is Nema 17 42SHD0217-24B and my board is a gt 2560 , the printer is an i3x pro. How much current should my stepper driver vref needs to be set to ?

    Hi there, I bought some of those control boards for a robot project. Now two questions where I not found answer on wiki. How to Adjustable current control? There is no pin out. And on what default current setting are the red boards delivered? Thanks

      1. Do you mean how to adjust the current? If so, you can rotate the little screw on A4988. 2. Default current is around 0.6A.

        Yes, I mean "how to adjust the current". In the datasheet of the A4988 thereis a formula Vref = Imax x (8 x Rs) What dimension is Rs? Is it 0.2Ohm ? thanks for the default setting.

        Another question: I connected vdd to +5V gnd and Vmot to 8.4 Battery. All Motor pins A1 B1 A2 B2 where on 8.4V therefore Stepper does not consume any current, what happened?

    I have bought these drivers and and i have things to say: 1- please fix the item description.. the board i got had 0.2Ohm sense resistors.. this limits the current from the a4988 to 1 amp and NOT TO 2A!! meaning that you can only drive bipolar stepper motors that require up to 1A. 2- other than that the board work and quality is good
