Faulty MeCreator 2

Post by jpolifer » Fri Jan 20, 2017 6:50 pm

I have bought a MeCreator 2 printer but a week after receiving it, I still can't get it to work...

Straight out of the box, the LCD screen showed two lines of blocks instead of the menu, like this:

I have searched the forum for possible solutions (in this topic) and tried to reupload the firmware.
However, every time I try to upload the firmware with various versions of Arduino I get a timeout.
I also installed the Repetier Host but it isn't able to communicate with the printer, even after installing the corresponding USB drivers.

What could be happening?

I guess maybe it's the broken crystal oscillartor...

No thats not the problem
Same to mine

the ribbon cable, where the display is connected to the main board is faulty.
Its highly bent between the connector and the little space due to the fan.
Disconnect it and you will see the printer is working, but with out the display.
no good construction...

Yes I did, but it isnt changing , always defect.
So the defect can be in the ribbon cable itself, becaucse of the bend radius, also at the connector, or in the display itself.
The issue is, that the housing of the LCD display is not secured with screws, but with metal lashes and as I know the can break, if you try to loosen them :-(
The printer has been just delvered and I dont bother to repair it for myself.

I think you can make some tests, like replace the ribbon cable and LCD(rarely) to take a look if you can get them in a local store.

If they are OK,then it must be the board issue and that is the time to ask the seller to resend it.

12. Save you from trouble of assembly

MeCreator 2 is assembled and tested by us before shipping. You can start printing right out of the box. Compared with DIY 3D printer, MeCreator 2 saves you from troubles of assembling. MeCreator 2 is highly recommended to both starters and experienced users.
