Late night mistake

Post by Mad Monkey » Sat Apr 27, 2019 12:55 pm

I came home to find a print was failing because of layer shifts and underextrusion.
I had recently installed tmc2208s and my test prints were good so I went for the full run.
I did not install a driver for extruder. Kept stock but was having trouble getting the esteps right all of a sudden (was perfect after upgrade)
In my troubleshooting I swapped drivers for a tmc2208. I put it in backwards saw smoke and instantly shut down machine.
My question is, have I fried the driver? The mainboard? Or both?
It's a gmt32 mini. 12v geeetech a30.

Thanks. I really don't want to have to wait for a month to get a new mainboard if that's the case.. Couldn't see anything burnt but didn't pull it out yet to check bottom. Etc.

Hi, I think maybe your printing speed is too fast, you can1. turn down the print speed
2.The mechanism for adjusting the tension of the belt
-Keep your mind and try to test it. :)
-Everything will be fun!-Support all Getech printer.
-You can ask me the questions and I will kindly reply.

Thanks for the reply but I didn't ask about speed.. I asked about installing a tmc2208s driver backwards and smoke happening.. What broke?

The lcd was still lit and looked operational.. I'll have to play with it to see what's actually broken. There are no burn marks I can see.

Hello.

Controller board for replacement.
If you can replace the main µC, you can replace it with a new one. (cheapest option) Then program it.
The µC port that controls the stepstick module has been burned. :(

Treat the stepstick module as unsafe.
The display module should function properly. ;)
