Egress Window Installation

Post by marydry » Thu Jun 23, 2022 3:55 pm

Egress windows are windows that lead outside of the building. They are installed to provide emergency exit routes in fire or other emergencies. There are many common mistakes made during egress window installation:

Mistake #1: Not ensuring that the window opens outwards to be opened from the inside.
Mistake #2: Installing a window with a single pane instead of two or more panes, so there is no way for smoke and heat to escape through the window.
Mistake #3: Installing a window without ensuring that it is large enough for people to pass through easily and quickly in an emergency.
Mistake #4: Not installing a fire-resistant sill plate on top of the window opening required by NFPA 130.
Mistake #5: Not using a high-quality, fire-resistant window opening.
