Little problem: pwm fan doesn't work.

Hi guys! 
i'm a proud owner of a Geeetech I3X and i have a little problem. I have a classic 50mm fan with a 3 poles connector (12v, gnd, and pwm??(yellow wire) ). When i connect it to the PWM-FAN port and try to change speed with Repetier-Host, the fan runs at the maximum power and it does not seem to change speed. Which could be the problem? There is a particular setting in Marlin firmware to enable the fan or there is something else?
