Extruder fan and spring settings

Post by robvoi » Thu Apr 14, 2016 3:25 pm

I finished the basic assembly of my Pro B. Now I have two questions regarding the extruder.

1. The fan is running constantly after switching on the printer. Even if not printing. I connected it to Fan1 on the board. As the fan has 3 cables I would expect some temperature based control. Should it run all the time?
2. I haven't had my first print yet. I wonder to what level I set the spring (for filament movement/strength) on the extruder for my first print. Is there a guide for the MK8 extruder for setting it up right?

Thanks
Robert

The extruder fan, plug it in the PWM fan connector and you can control it through the repetier host.
As for the spring, if you can extrude the filament manually from the button on the repetier host, then it won't be a problem.
You can check out this link if this is not working:

Thanks for your support. ALso on the other posts. I am sure I will have more questions later. :-)

Don't think that connection exists on the GT2560 board, correct?

EDIT: sorry for the unnecessary response, connector 14 is a PWM fan connector

Hello,

I'm trying to add a cooling fan and connected to PWM slot but it doesn't work. The fan was tested and it works fine.
I have Prusa i3 Pro B with GT2560 board bought in September. I use Marlin and in the firmware, PWM fan Pin is 7.
Tizzy, you said connector 14 is a PWM fan connector. Did you mean Pin 14?
Thanks!

Its the connector next to fan 3 on the gt2560 and is marked PWM on the board, but mine doesn't work either, probably has to be enabled in the firmware but haven't got to round to investigating yet

I see. Let m know if you make it work. I've made some changes in the firmware as PWM fan PIN 7 but doesn't work.

I connected a filament cooling fan to the PWN socket.
You just need to switch the fan on in Repetier.
Cura & Slic3er have settings so it won't go on until you reach a specified level (first layers adhere better to the bed without cooling fan).
