GT2560 extension board melted

Hi I purchased a Geeetech prusa I3 A Pro 3D printer DIY kit back in November got it all set up and have done about 20-30 prints with 7 of these being 7-8 hours long.

On my last print there was a horrible smell around the house and it appears my GT2560 extension board has melted where the heat bed connection was.
I immediately turned of the printer.

Do you know where i can get a replacement board from? the eBay seller is being less that helpful currently, i believe to being because they have already had to replace all Z rods due to being bent, the aluminium heat bed as it wasn't flat and the extruder element as this had failed.

I'm afraid you still have to contact the seller to talk about it(maybe at her/your expense).

In addition,i guess the reason(why the connector melted) is that you left it working too long(you said 7-8 hours)... :roll:

I wasn't aware that there was a maximum print time as nothing was mentioned about any cool-off period in the instructions.

Also this part should only supply power to the heating element, so i wouldn't expect this part to have failed like this.



Do you have any tips for trying to split a long hour print is to smaller chunks and a recommended cool down period :geek:

As for the cool-off period,i think your printing time doesn't exceed 6 hours.
Meanwhile,make sure you have a powerful cooling fan for your board.

This is the model I have Geeetech prusa I3 A Pro with the 3 in 1 control box.

The control box has a cooling fan in it the extension board on the back of the printer doesn't, i haven't seen anyone else do this mod so i'm unsure if its necessary?

I cannot be the only one using this printing doing 7-8 hour prints.

The ebay seller has said this is down to damage of the user so will not replace the part.

does anyone know where i can get a GT2560 extension board that comes with the 3-in-1 control box like in this picture below Image

I have contact geeetech 2 times about this but have not had a response yet.

If that is the case,maybe you can ask the seller to resend it but at your expense?

Hi,

Did this get sorted out?

There are a couple of ways I can think of that this could have happened accidentally; the pictures look to me like the current through in the terminal was too high maybe caused by the bed contacts (on the underside of the bed) shorting through one of the clips (that hold the glass) to the nozzle on the hot end. It could also have been caused by a short from the underside of the board to the chassis (if you have a metal chassis).

If you are competent with a soldering iron you can probably clean the board up and replace the terminal with a new one from eBay/amazon/Maplin for a couple of pounds.

The maths of 40 watts / 12 volts gives a current of 3.33 amps so maybe put in some (12 volt) 4 or 5 amp fuses in line between the terminals and the heaters to reduce the impact of a runaway high current happening again .....

Suitable 2 and 4 way 12V fuseboxes are readily available for a few £££ on ebay and Amazon, having just shorted my own hotend against a glass retaining clip I am learning from the experience!

I have this problem also. I was running my printer for quite a long time with the heatbed at 95C to start and down to 80C continuous.

Been trying to contact Geeetech to see about getting a replacement board but no replies as of yet.
