Acrylic I3 pro B: BIG Customization

Post by benedetto.luca » Sat Oct 10, 2015 12:18 am

CIao,
after having completed the build of my i3B I've customize it to convert the printer from DIY to something that can be hosted on any desk!
You can found all STL on my http://www.thingiverse.com/Luca_Benedetto/about

And some parts not only one time in order to share only final and good design:
I've also change the M8 bars with ACME bar to improuve quality, add sensor for AutoBedLevel, change glass with Mirror and the original MalinFirware with MalinKimbra one!
And now my printer is really something that can be used by anyone and placed on any desk without problem...

Hi Luca

Some really nice customizations just what it needs proper guards and covers and some cable chains like "proper" CNC machines

I'm just finishing the build of an i3 pro C dual extruder and some of the components do look very vulnerable especially the endstops and the power supply I don't like having mains voltage quite as exposed as it is that little cover on the power supply is very flimsy and it certainly doesn't meet U.K. specs I don't know about your country but probably the same.

I quite agree about using ACME feedscrews on the Z Axis The first thing I noticed when building mine is there is quite a lot of backlash on the Z axis but as it doesn't have to change direction in use it doesn't matter as much.

But backlash is a bad thing in anything like this. It doesn't matter how accurate your steppers are or how rigid the machine is if there is backlash in the screws the positioning won't be as good.

Where did you get your ACME screws and what pitch are they ?

I Assume that you have to alter the pulses/mm calibration to accommodate different feedscrew pitches.

Regards Mark

Hi Mark,
when I've change the M8 with the ACME T8 I've take the 8mm with 2mm and I've of course change the Z step inside the Marlin!
