How to prepare for 3D printing fabric?

PLA or ABS filament

PLA is the most frequently used material with a lower printing temperature and excellent printing effect. ABS is premium at its hardness which is a strong thermoplastic material requiring higher printing temperature. Click here to check out the differences between PLA and ABS filaments.

Printing Fabric

Heat-resistant cotton, polyester, blends, or netting and meshes.

3D model

Design your own or download them from sites like Thingiverse.

3D Printing software

Of your choice like EasyPrint 3D App.

Instructions:

You can directly print onto a fabric of your choice OR first print onto material like tulle/mesh. Therefore, then sow it onto another. Follow these easy steps 3D print your designs onto fabric!

1. Choose a design. You can create your own using TinkerCAD or download a cool design from Thingiverse, MyMiniFactory, etc. Geometric shapes are some of the best choices especially ones with spaces in between, in this way, your fabric can still be flexible.

2. 3D printing software. Use it to slice your model and convert it to G-code. Infill of 20-30% should be good enough for most designs.

3. Choose fabric! Materials like cotton are good since they can easily withstand the temperature of PLASmoothen your fabric over the print bed making sure that there are no creases or wrinkles. To make sure that your fabric sticks to the print bed, you can use double-sided tape or clothespin clips to hold the fabric down from the edges of the print bed.

4. Check settings. The first layer you print will soak into the fabric and bind directly to it. After you’ve checked all the settings, print as you normally would. Just be sure to occasionally check your print to see that the extruder head isn’t pulling the fabric too much.

5. Remove it. After your print is done, wait for the print to cool and gently remove it from the print bed. And there, you’re all done!

Should you use fabric glue with 3D printing fabric?

3D printing with fabric is easy

Without fabric glue, your print may not be permanently stuck to the fabric below and could peel off if you apply enough force. To ensure fabric glue gets absorbed thoroughly you should use it on both the top and under the top surface.

However, If you’re looking for a step-by-step method, check out Uncle Jessy’sawesome tutorial from which you can fuse a fabric-like mesh of tulle between the layers of your 3D print!

You can download both the Dragon Scales and Hexagon Patterns from Thingiverse! So get printing and share your creations to inspire others. The article is helpful and will inspire you to 3D printing on fabric. Happy Printing!

Are You Kidding Me !! These Restaurants Serve 3D Printed Food… https://www.geeetech.com/blog/3d-printing-application/3d-printing-design/are-you-kidding-me-these-restaurants-serve-3d-printed-food/ Thu, 01 Feb 2018 22:30:29 +0000 http://www.geeetech.com/blog/?p=8530 Due to the advancements in 3D Printing and the future capabilities, we cannot limit our horizons to just print beauty products or houses or small intricate designs, it is also well establishing the food industry. It sounds a little dramatic but yes there do exist restaurants that use 3D Printers for making the dishes. There is no stopping to 3D Printing …

Let’s know what these Restaurants do offer:

  1. Food Ink Restaurant – LONDON

A Restaurant where everything is 3D Printed right from the dine out furniture to all the cutlery in the Kitchen and is the first 3D Printed restaurant in the world. When they had just opened, it was an exhibition space in the morning where people can visit and see 3D Printers printing food and try some 3D Printed snacks.

During the night hours, it would turn into a boutique restaurant, where 10 diners per sitting paid over £250 a head for a nine-course menu, printed during the meal while they watched.Antony Dobrzensky, Food Ink’s co-founder, and director explains his love towards science and wanted to connect it with the people.

There’s when he thought about 3D Printed food.  He says,”I began exploring the idea of doing something with 3D printing that could connect to the public and I came to the conclusion that food, the universal language… was probably the best way to bring what is otherwise an exotic, intimidating, confusing subject to the mainstream.”

The restaurant also has VR systems and is almost full every time you walk in so book your seats first, also getting a ticket is quite hard. The restaurant focuses on futuristic developments in the 3D printing world.

2. La Boscana- SPAIN

Mateo Blanch the chef of the restaurant wants to bring creativity to the food he makes that’s what 3D printing helps him to achieve. He uses the FOCUS 3D Printer by Dutch manufacturer BYFLOW which is the first multi-material printer and is portable.

Mateo says “I am using the 3D printer in my restaurant and I like to use it in front of customers so that they can participate and see how I am making their food, and I’ve had really good feedback from my customers.”

3. Melisse Restaurant- Santa Monica

If you think there cannot be any creativity with the salty crouton on a salad or soup, then 3D printing comes right to your rescue, chef Josiah Citrin, the chef, and co-owner of Santa Monica-based restaurant Mélisse made this exclusive 3D Printed croutons.

The grand opening of the restaurant in Los Angeles had mostly to deal with all the 3D Printed delicacies and special guests. Josiah served a French Onion soup 3D printed onion powder cube in a bowl that dissolved as hot oxtail broth was poured over, as well as a 3D printed pumpkin and maple waffle cradling a quail egg. The printer used for preparing these mouth-watering dishes is ChefJet Pro and there were other chefs who used the 3D printer to there most for a perfect gourmet.

4. La Enoteca at Hotel Arts-  BARCELONA

Chef Paco Parez of La Enoteca has shown that 3D Printing and a person’s creativity can deploy the intricate designs to food which are complicated to produce by hand.

He produces the complicated sea coral straight into the plate with the help of Foodini 3D Printer.Secondly, he places caviar, sea-urchins, hollandaise sauce, egg, and a “foam” of carrot on top of the design, by hand, transporting the end diner to the depths of the ocean both visually and on the palette.

A sleek fancy restaurant that supports 3D Printing to make there dishes beautiful and appealing , the chef and the owner Paco Parez say “Creativity is shaped by what technology can do.”

We are fascinated by the possibilities of 3D Printing in every industry and surely it is gonna make a  revolution and ease our life-giving potential for our creativity. You can know more about 3D Printing, it’s applications and troubleshooting at our blog.

3D printed chocolate can help lose weight? https://www.geeetech.com/blog/news/3d-printed-chocolate-can-help-lose-weight/ Thu, 02 Jul 2015 12:00:31 +0000 http://www.geeetech.com/blog/?p=5579 Do you like chocolate which  absolutely  bring you a  taste of  sweet and a sense of happiness ?Can you image those charming chocolates can help you lose weight by motivating  to do excersice?Today, we will share a article with you about this funny news.  Let’s enjoy it.

A Heath benefit of regular exercise is undeniable, as adequate exercise is associated with better health in many respects. Especially in the case of Obesity, according to a recent report done by the American National Center for Health Statistics approximately 66 percent of American adults were overweight or obese. This is the highest level in the recorded history, and its killing people. The only way we can get physically better is by inculcating habits of Regular exercise and limiting calorie intake. It sounds easier than done as we are talking about Habits here and it is said that “Old Habits Die Hard.”

So how do we convince people to be more active and exercise regularly? The answer to this question is extremely difficult to find, however, we are not losing hope. One popular belief among researchers who study behavioral aspects of humans is to give incentives to encourage people to exercise regularly. It works as a motivation tool as it rewards people to do something they are reluctant to do.

3d-printed-choclate-2

Based on this theory, a team of Australian Researchers from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology has decided to reward people who exercise regularly with 3d printed chocolates. To conduct this experiment the team has chosen ten families from Melbourne, Australia. They have installed Chocolate 3d printers in their houses; these printers will print the dark temptation in different shapes depending on the frequency and intensity of their exercise.

Rohit Ashok Khot, a researcher closely linked to this experiment said “We think of it as positive reinforcement, it’s not directly looked at in terms of the size and quantity, but the more exercise you do, the more cheerful and beautiful the chocolate becomes.” “People like to track their exercise data using things like Fitbits, but that only gets seen in numbers and graphs on a screen. Now that we can track exercise, why not connect it to an edible material?”

3d-printed-choclate-1

For the experiment the researchers would be using EdiPulse 3D printer, it will be printing encouraging messages like “Keep it up” or “Well done” and others depending on your exercise routine. This does not mean that if you end up doing exercise for the whole day you will get the whole canister full of Chocolate. The printer has been configured to ooze out only 30 Ml of Chocolate at a time to make one personalized statement as a reward.

Who knows some day we will be using Food 3d printers that are smart enough to calculate the amount of calories we have used in a day and replenish us with the exact amount. This is a pretty exciting experiment and we are extremely interested in knowing the final results of this. What do you think? Do share your views and opinions with us.
