M301 software multiple hot end temperature control

Post by Veenoh » Sat Dec 24, 2016 8:34 am

I'm finally starting to get some decent prints with my M301 using PLA, even starting to be able to switch colors. While tweaking the temperature settings in slic3r, to change the first layer temperature and then printing with the 3rd extruder, I noticed that the temperature did not change for the second layer and I don't think the first layer was controlled either. It was set to whatever I selected before the print started. I think only the first extruder's hot end is being controlled so when I selected the 3rd one, the temperature didn't change. All 3 thermistor temperature's are mapped to the 1st extruder's connection but not the control.

Any thoughts on how to make this work?

Hi René,

See answers below. Merry Christmas!

Do you have a 100% original printer or have you changed parts? I changed the stepper voltages to about .8V. I put washers on any diagonal rods that had slop in them. I put elastic between the pairs of rods. And, probably most importantly, I stiffened the spring of the extruder with a shim. (I just received metal extruders but have not put them in yet.)

Could you complete the following table of print settings? :

3D part printing sheet:

0) Printer Brand:
1) Model of the printer: M301
2) Name of drawing OBJ or STL: iP5-earbud-wrap-02.stl
3) Diameter of the nozzle: .4mm
4) Material used: PLA
5) Material color: Blue
6) Manufacturer of material:
7) Material Diameter: 1.75mm
8) Nozzle temperature: 190° C
9) Plate temperature: 60° C
10) First layer: 0.3mm
11) Other Layers: 0.2mm
12) Number of outlines: 2
13) Filling%: 20%
14) Print Speed: 20 mm / s
15) Travel speed: 60 mm / s
16) Acceleration speed: mm / s
17) Extrusion speed: 20 mm / s
18) Retracting:1 mm
19) Retracting speed:20

Ascertainment :
Respect of dimensions:Good dimensionally
General impression : Good shape with even lines and corners. Printed standing vertical which I could not do on my Printrbot Simple without knocking it over, especially at .2mm layer height. Used Slic3r 1.2.9 on Mac, printed with Octoprint on Raspberry Pi
Correction required:A lot of strings but easy to remove

Do you have photos or videos of your 3D impressions?

Hello,
Bonjour,

You can find the original text into English following this original French text.

Thank you for all the information and the photo!

Would you have more pictures that show the finishing touches?

So you would say that with a spring reinforcement shim extruder clamps and drastic reduction in speeds (divided by at least 4) you have good impressions?

See the following topic for other solution ideas:

Well, good impressions may be overstating it a little. I'm now hopeful that the quality will improve. I still want to print in ABS and, of course, with multiple colors which is the point of the mixing hot end.

Attached are a couple of more pictures. I did not take a photo before cleaning up the strings.
