Z wobble - Geeetech I3 Pro B - short question

Post by peter1451 » Thu Mar 30, 2017 3:18 am

Hi all,

I want to improve Z wobble in my Geeetech Prusa I3 Pro B.

Should I print this two parts?:

1. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1920478
2. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1424358

But please watch this video below:
3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5XpvJxJVaQ

So which solution is the best?

Because the solution 1 and 3 exclude each other..

Thank you for your help

There is a difference between z wobble and z banding. The modifications are a mask to hide these.. but not a 100% fix. I had z banding, my first step was to make sure my threaded rods were straight., there were ok, but were very soft, so replaced them straight away. Also the geeetech push rods are very poor quality. one was binding on the bearing the other was sloppy, so replaced both the smooth rods. Now the couplings are not the best, so would replace them. best way is when raising the z axis if they rotate prefectly true then you are fine, if not, try and adjust them or replace them until they do. The threaded rod should drop straight into the coupling with out any interference. This will cure half if not all your problems.

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1920478 <-- This one improved my prints immensely! Definitely worth if you cant afford to upgrade the rods right now.

Xalu,

I think that is a very bad idea. Overall, the idea of the two Z rods freely rotating without any bearings except the one in the stepper and that flexible coupling is really a joke. It is OK for testing, but the only real improvement is to have bearings on each ends of each rod, one fixed to the rod and the frame, to release the strain from the stepper bearings and the couplings.

Both of the "solutions" are very bad. Problems should be fixed, not hidden.
