LCD or board does not start

Post by Celian » Fri Dec 11, 2015 8:02 am

Hi There,

I bought a Geetech M201 couple days ago. Now assembled after facing small problems i solved with yout help on this forum.
I printed already several basic parts this afternoon when the printer & LCD freeze suddenly ??

Switch off / Switch off, i got a light lcd without nothing or sometimes, the famous two block lines and nothing else. Only the nozzle fan is working.
If i wait 20 min without 12volt on the board, i got this behavior : https://goo.gl/photos/5cifcPX2pbr7bNrM6
Printer start for 1 second ( display info almost like usual ) and nothing after. Of course, i tried reset switch on both GTM32 and LCD....nothing at all, even a reboot of the board.

Any idea ?

Thanks for your help. Celian.

Is it a bad contact of the LCD cable? or maybe try to reinstall the firmware, check this link here: http://www.geeetech.com/forum/viewtopic ... 13&t=17173

Hi Mark,

I switched and test the LCD cable. No matter.

As the board is "working" with a correct LCD display for a whole second, i suspect the microcontroller.
I tried to flash the firmware, no success even the STM32 USB device is well recognized by my computer.

I noticed the 3.3V tiny led not far away the microcontroller. The 3.3V is most of the time off and when it is on, the brightness is so light that should indicate a voltage problem.
Without 3.3V, i suppose the microcontroller can not operate properly and reset has no effect.

What do you think about ?
Which component is providing 3.3 volt ?
anything else to do or check ?

Best regards. Celian.

You can check the PSU output, it is 24V.
And the chip 1117 provides 3.3V, see the picture below:

Hi Mark,

Exact, I have only 1,4 volt and that is not enough to start the microcontroller.
I will try to find a AMS1117 3.3V and replace it if you agree.

Best regards. Celian.

are your other voltages correct? I mean the PSU output, 5V on the board? If they are all correct, then maybe the 3.3V chip is defective.

Hi Mark,

Yes, 24 VDC and 5 VDC are correct.
On the pin 1 and 3 of the ams1117, 5VDC is there.

Seems to be the 1117's problem. You can change it and check the results.

Hi Mark,

I received finally a set of 10 AMS1117 3.3V.
I place a new one on the GTM32 and 3.3V appears again but unfortunately, once the STM32 boot, 2 - 3 seconds after the board hang up.
Take a look at the video.

I suppose i need a replacement board. What is the procedure ?
Please pay attention, board worked only a couple of days before fail.

Best regards. Celian.
